<p><span style="font-size: small;">Well why not go straight to where product is manufactured rather than waiting for it to be processed and converted by a middle man (or, cow)? OK, this is not a crusade for everybody to</span><span style="font-size: small;"> </span><span style="font-size: small;"> start eating their lawns, or clear out the plants on the town’s vacant lots – although there could be a good argument for doing so. The story is told of Ann Wigmore who, in the 1940s, healed herself of cancer from the weeds she found in vacant lots around Boston.</span><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">We are here talking about wheatgrass. A simple food that is big on claims and substance. Ann Wigmore went on to write many books on the subject and started a healing institute. She lived until she was 84 years old. The cancer never returned, but she died in a fire when the old building that housed her institute went up in flames.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Wheatgrass has a lo</span><span style="font-size: small;"> </span><span style="font-size: small;">ng history. Tradition has it that the Essenes, the Jewish group who lived at the time of Jesus, would have had wheat seeds and wheat seed sprouts as part of their diet. They believed that a good diet and a positive attitude was the answer to perfect health. Which is still good advice today.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Modern evidence suggests that much of the sickness that is around today is due to our poor diets. Food is either processed too much, or cooked to death – often destroying the life-giving enzymes, vitamins and minerals on the way.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Wheatgrass is full of enzymes, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It is an excellent source of ca</span><span style="font-size: small;">lcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulphur, cobalt, and zinc.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"> Supporters also claim, as if the above list of ingredients is not enough, that there is a more important ingredient in wheatgrass. That ingredient is chlorophyll. This is the life force for our planet&#8217;s plant kingdom. Chlorophyll is liquid energy from the sun. It is practically identical to human blood except that magnesium is in its nucleus instead of iron.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">During the 1940s there was much research done on the health benefits of chlorophyll. There are over 40 articles from that time, written up in various medical journals. The positive effects of chlorophyll for our health are too numerous to list here. But here are a few, wheatgrass is an effective tonic for skin allergies, kidney stones, dental infections and acne. It is also claimed that scar tissue in lungs caused by smoking or drugs can be healed over time.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">In recent years more research work has been by Japanese pharmacist, </span><span style="font-size: small;">Yoshihide Hagiwar, who found that barley grass had restorative healing powers. And of course many people are finding out for themselves, that this natural product, wheatgrass, has remarkable health benefits. Why not try it for yourself? </span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Wheatgrass has been known for many years for it&#8217;s health benefits, and those who are serious about their diets can take it in a juice, tablet or powder form. The popularity of wheatgrass is attributed to one of its early proponents, Charles Schnabel, who in the 1930s he made some interesting claims. His well documented assertion that, &#8220;15 pounds of wheatgrass is equivalent to 350 pounds of the choicest vegetables&#8221;, will probably have to go down these days as an unsubstantiated claim. Well you can&#8217;t doubt his enthusiasm, and the image that this statement conjures up is worth keeping his quotation to hand.</p>
<p>There will always be those who challenge the perceived truths of the healthy eating fans. The organic food industry can testify to that. What is not in doubt is that wheatgrass has a high count when in comes to amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll and fiber. So whatever else you believe, wheatgrass ticks the boxes as a healthy food, and it is easy to take and digest. Wheatgrass compliments any diet and is especially good for anyone on a low carbohydrate diet- since it is naturally high in protein and low in carbohydrates. The best current advice is to take 5 portions of fruit and vegetables everyday, and wheatgrass can certainly help with this.</p>

<p>Some of the health benefits ascribed to wheatgrass are; helping to prevent heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Also wheatgrass is thought to aid digestion and cleanse the liver and alleviate acne. Some of this evidence may be circumstantial, but these claims are often made by people who have tried this for themselves after often having tried everything else.</p>
<p>Wheatgrass is also so easy to grow indoors at home. How many fruits and vegetables can you say that for. It doesn&#8217;t matter if you live in a small apartment, as long as you have a window sill, you are in business. Wheatgrass likes a sunny spot and regular watering. You can grow it in pots or flat blocks and it&#8217;s ready from seed in a week to ten days. Keep a succession of pots and just trim it off at its base when you need it. Drink about two ounces each day just before a meal, or mix it with your favorite juice, as part of a healthy diet. Sounds good!</p>
